2013 SUMMER PROGRAM - MENTAL ASPECTS OF BASEBALL - MENTAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

GOALS :

1. TO DEVELOP THE PLAYERS MENTAL ABILITIES TO CONTROL STRESS & PRESSURE SO THAT THEIR MECHANICS IS NOT AFFECTED BY STRESS OR GAME PRESSURE. (NOTE: THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TO SAMI IN HS)
2. TO DEVELOP MENTAL DISCIPLINE & TOUGHNESS TO ENABLE A PLAYER TO RELAX UNDER STRESSFUL CONDITIONS TO ENABLE OPTIMUM BASEBALL PERFORMANCES.
3. DEVELOP PLAYERS RESPONSIBILITIES QUALITIES.
4. DEVELOP PLAYERS LEADERSHIP QUALITIES.

THEORY:

1. CHARACTER IS WHO YOU ARE WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING
2. DURING WW 2. MARINES WERE TRAINED TO HANDLE BEING CAPTURED BY JAPANESE, WHO USED SPECIFIC KNOWN TORTURES, BY SIMULATING DRILLS THAT PRODUCED THE SAME MENTAL EFFECTS SO THEY COULD HANDLE THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS AND THUS SURVIVE.
3. PERFECT MECHANICS, WHICH IS DEPENDENT ON MUSCLE MEMORY EXECUTING THE VARIOUS TECHNIQUES OF BASEBALL, IS AFFECTED BY PHYSICAL STRESS AND PRESSURE.
4. PHYSICAL STRESS AND PRESSURE, WHICH AFFECTS HOW MUSCLES RESPOND TO MUSCLE MEMORY SIGNALS, IS CAUSED BY THE BRAINS RESPONSE TO THE CONDITIONS IN THE ENVIRONMENT THAT THE ACTION IS OCCURRING. (THE GAME ITSELF)
5. THE MIND CAN BE TRAINED TO OVERCOME OR CONTROL STRESS AND PRESSURE SO THAT THE MUSCLES RECEIVE THE PROPER UNDISTURBED BRAIN SIGNALS.
6. THE BEST SIMULATED DRILLS WILL REQUIRE GAME CONDITIONS THEMSELVES. SINCE THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CREATE IN PRACTICE AT A HIGH RATE OF REPETITION WE TRY TO USE ANYTHING ELSE THAT WILL CREATE STRESS AND CAN BE REPEATED AT A HIGH RATE AND WE USE OUR MIND TO WORK ON CONTROLLING THAT STRESS.
7. IT REQUIRES HIGH REPETITION DRILLS TO CHANGE ANY PHYSICAL OR MENTAL RESPONSE TO PHYSICAL ACTIONS AND THEREFORE BASEBALL'S TECHNIQUES.
8. TO DEVELOP A PLAYERS LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITIES QUALITIES YOU MUST ALLOW HIM TO EXECUTE THOSE QUALITIES AT ALL TIMES BY GIVING HIM THE TOOLS AND AUTHORITY HE NEEDS TO SUCCEED.
9. MUST HOLD PLAYER RESPONSIBLE FOR RESULTS BUT ALLOW HIM TO FAIL AND RESPOND TO THOSE FAILURES.
10. MENTAL STRESS CAN BE CREATED BY FORCING YOURSELF TO DOING SIMPLE, EASILY DONE BUT MEANINGLESS THINGS THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO DO AND/OR TO NOT DO THINGS YOU WANT & LOVE TO DO.
11. SINCE THERE IS NO PUNISHMENT FOR FALURE IT BECOMES VERY HARD TO DO WHAT DON'T WANT TO DO OR TO NOT DO WHAT WANT TO DO. THEREFORE STRESS WILL OCCUR.
12. A PLAYER CAN SELECT SIMPLE EASY TO DO ITEMS THAT HE NORMALLY DOES AND ENJOYS & DENIES HIMSELF THE USE OF THEM & HE SELECTS THINGS THAT HE DOSNT WANT TO DO AND ARE MEANINGLESS AND DOES THEM. THIS WILL CREATE STRESS.

NOTES:

1. ALL DRILLS MUST BE AGREED TO IN ADVANCE ON A TOTALLY VOLUNTARY BASIS.
2. ANYONE MAY CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE AS THIS IS AN UN-SUPERVISED DRILL DONE SOLELY ON YOUR OWN.
3. DURING PRACTICE STRESS IS CREATED BY WORKING UNCOMFORTABLY IN HEAT VIA BEING IN SWEATS DURING DRILL REPS OR BY BEING ANNOYED BY A COLLAR. WE CREATE THIS STRESS DURING THE LEARNING PHASES OF DRILLS SO THAT MIND MUST CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOUR DOING AND NOT ON OTHER THINGS.
4. TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY MENTAL REPS THE PLAYER MUST KEEP MENTAL PRESSURE ON HIMSELF ALL SUMMER LONG.

SUGGESTED SIMULATION DRILLS - (FOR SAMI / NAIM)

1. GIVE UP PLAYING ANY VIDEO OR COMPUTER GAMES FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER. LESS TV WATCHING EXCEPT FOR BASEBALL GAMES OR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
2. REPLACE THE GAME PLAYING & TV WATCHING TIME PERIOD WITH STUDYING. REVIEW FOR AT LEAST ONE HOUR EACH DAY THE MATERIAL LEARNED IN A SUBJECT THIS PAST YEAR OR READ A BOOK YOU EXPECT TO BE PART OF NEXT TERMS ENGLISH CLASS. DO DIFFERENT SUBJECT EACH DAY OF WEEK.
THIS WILL GIVE BETTER FUTURE GRADES AND GED SCORES AND POSSIBLY SUPPLEMENT OR ENABLE A BASEBALL SCHOLARSHIP IN THE FUTURE. YOUR ALLOWED TO SKIP ONE DAY EACH WEEK.
3. THE WEARING OF PANTS OR SWEATS ONLY AT ALL TIMES FOR ENTIRE SUMMER. NO USE OF SHORTS EXCEPT AT THE BEACH. MUST WEAR PANTS EVEN IN HOT DAYS AT HOME EXCEPT WHEN SLEEPING. This item might be the hardest one and therefore the one with the most benefit in the long run.
4. A SIMILAR ITEM DETERMINED BY THE PLAYER.
5. WEARING PANTS AT PROPER HEIGHT AT ALL TIMES. NO UNDERWEAR SHOWING. .
6. KEEP A DIARY ENTRY AT THE SAME TIME EACH DAY. DOSENT MEAN ONLY BY THE CLOCK BUT AFTER OR BEFORE A SPECIFIC EVENT YOU DO EACH DAY. RECORD WHAT ACCOMPLISHED AND WHICH ITEMS FAILED TO DO.

NOTES:

1. THAT ITS NEVER TOO LATETO START AND CAN RESTART WITH A NEW DETERMINATION AFTER A FAILURE.
YOU CAN'T SAY I WILL FAIL DELIBERATELY JUST THIS ONE TIME AS THIS WILL DESTROY ALL MENTAL GAINS. MAY ONLY FAIL AFTER EVERY POSSIBLE EFFORT IS MADE TO SUCCEED.
MUST RESTART EVEN AFTER THIS KIND OF FAILURE TO TRY TO GAIN SOME MENTAL BENEFIT OVER THE SUMMER.
2. MAKE A DAILY SCHEDULE FOR EACH DAY IN THE TWO SUMMER MONTHS
* INCLUDE YOU SUMMER PRACTICES.
* WHAT YOU WANT TO DO EACH SUMMER DAY.
* ON DAYS WE DONT PRACTICE YOU MUST STILL SCHEDULE A 45 MIN RUN AND 20 MINS OF PHYSICAL EXERCISES.
* WHEN YOU WILL FILL OUT YOUR BASEBALL DIARY. WILL INCLUDE A BRIEF SUMMARY OF EACH BASEBALL PRACTICE INCLUDING ITERATIONS AS BEST YOU REMEMBER THEM.
3. MAY CHOOSE TO ADD PUNISHMENTS FOR FAILURES. THIS WILL BE HARDER TO DO BUT WILL HELP YOU WITH NOT FAILING AGAIN.
USE 100 JUMPING JACKS OR 25 PUSH-UPS OR BE IN DOWN POSITION MOTIONLESS FOR 5 MINS.
ONE OF THESE ITEMS FOR EACH FAILURE YOU LIST ON YOUR DIARY.
DONE AFTER DOING THE DIARY.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. ASSIST IN TEACHING AMD CORRECTING NEW PLAYERS WITH THEIR TECHNIQUES AT ALL GAMES AND PRACTICES.
2. HELP MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE WITH REMINDERS TO TEAMMATES AT ALL TIMES.
3. SET AN EXAMPLE FOR TEAMMATES.
4. BE A CHEERLEADER IN ATTITUDE.
5. BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE PRACTICE SCHEDULE. BE THE DECISION MAKER ON WETHER YOU DESIRE TO CONTINUE WITH A DRILL AFTER SCHEDULED TIME RUNS OUT OR GO ONTO THE SCHEDULED DRILL FOR YOUR LONG PRACTICES.
6. HELP KEEP ME ON SCHEDULE DURING OTHER TYPE PRACTICES.
7. BE THE TEAM LEADERS IN ALL WAYS.
8. KEEP ME GOING PROPERLY. USE ALL THE DISCIPLINE TECHNIQUES THAT WE USED IN THE PAST BUT INCREASE THE INTENSITY AS NEEDED.
9. PERFORM THE DRILLS IN THE COACHES SUPPORT PLAN. COACHES SCHEDULE WILL BE ON WEB SIGHT. CHECK THAT HE IS AVAILABLE FOR LENGTH OF TIME NEEDED FOR YOU TO PERFORM YOUR SELECTED DRILL.
