BASEBALL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
PRACTICE CONCEPTS

Developed for SAMI & NAIM

GOALS
........ Develop the physical strength of the body parts used in baseball to enable stronger execution of the skills and techniques needed to perform at a high level.
........ Improve attitudes and reactions to enable behavior of athletes.
........ Improve concentration and intensity during performance of skills and techniques.
........ Improve ability to perform at levels they are capable of reaching while under unfavorable conditions such as stress, heat, adversity, etc.
........ Improve all the techniques and skills required to perform well in baseball.
....... Understand the details of the techniques they are using and understand how each practice item contributes to their goals.

SCHEDULE - TIME
1. 8:00 - 9:45am : Physical training session (
MODIFICATION ON 2 JULY - POSTPONED TO FALL OR WINTER ......................................................................................SINCE RECOVERY TIME NEEDED WILL INTERFER WITH SCHEDULED GAMES)
2. 8:30 - 10:30am. : Technical skills drill session.
3. 10:30 - 12:00pm : Team skills drill session.

4. 12:00 - 12:30pm: evaluation & classroom session.
5. 12:30- 1:00pm : Pizza + Protein drink lunch (not needed)
6. 4:00 - 8:00pm : Night practices - used for specialized practices for players and for players with time .....................................................................................conflicts with morning events and for those who wish to partially participate.

Five hour events possible but 4 will be average time,

PARTICIPANTS
...... Other player who are serious about being an athlete and desires to achieve the mentioned goals may participate if they are willing to do the work and spend the time.

SCHEDULE - DAYS
....... Held every Tuesday & thursday at start of summer vacation till labor day. Days of practice may change based on recovery times and scheduled league games. Sunday may be added to the practice schedule when possible.
....... During school months practice at night but physical sessions will be last instead of first if no game that night. Must verify homework is being done.

PLAYERS DECISION FACTOR
...... Players must have the time to participate.
...... Player must seriously want to improve their physical conditioning (delayed to fall or winter), their ability to handle and work under stress and heat, their athletic and personal discipline, their attention to repetitive detail so practice can make changes and develop their baseball skills.
...... There is no complaining once they are willing to participate. No hesitations. We will build up slowly to expected performance levels.
...... Must understand this will be a lot of work for me as well and so we don't want failure.
...... Must understand that their goals are worth the effort.

PUNISHMENT
......... We will not use jumping jacks as one of the physical exercises but reserve it to be used only so players get the feeling when assigned jumping jacks that they are failing to meet their goals based on things they can control.
......... Punishment for failure to respond quickly, to know and follow procedure or schedules on own / to take responsibility / to put in full effort despite being hot, tired, etc / to get desired results when reasonable = 1- 10 min holding "down" position followed by 1 - 10 sets of 100 continuous jumping jacks back to down position after each set.
......... Certainty of punishment for any failure no matter how slight. Number of sets and time based on severity of the failure.

HYDRATION and EXHAUSTION
......... All the water and rest desired between drills or items. No breaks within drills or items. No rest when working on cardiovascular improvement or working while tired unless not able to continue.

TECHNIQUES and PROCEDURES
........ Physical training using conventional exercises.
........ Effort to build heart / arms / shoulders / stomach / legs.
........ Pressure simulation using sweats and other available techniques.
........ Working when very tired and getting results.
....... Discipline using position holding / quick responses to every action / collars ( headband).
....... Very very high repetitions during skill drills.
....... Work on one thing fully before going onto the next drill. Do missed drills at next practice before repeating the sequence again.

ITEMS REQUIRED AT EVENTS
1. Bat / glove / Cletes / batting glove / knee pads
2. own hooded sweat shirt and sweat pants / extra tee shirt / extra underware shorts / extra socks / sun blocking cream / hat.
3. Large towel.
4. Bklyn sweat suit if given / collars( headband) and wrist bands if given.
5. Candy bar / banana / Large bottle with sink water (3/4 fill water,freeze overnight,fill to top in morning)
6. Bag to hold items


PHYSICAL TRAINING SESSION

..... 8 mins....... Prepare. Dress wearing underware / tee shirt / knee pads / sweat pants / sweat shirt bkwd / collar / wrist bands / hat / socks / cletes / sun blocker if you need it. Setup next item in dugout. Walk partner to starting position and say go. Do everything as indicated in proper order.

..... 15 mins..... Blood circulation blinded partner trot / blinded full stretching sequence @ 15 seconds each. Repeat run and stretch for partner.

..... 15 mins..... Exercises for arms / shoulder / stomach / legs - at max reps can perform properly.

..... 15 mins...... Form running drills / base running drills / wind sprints

..... 20 - 40 mins..... Blinded run using sighted partner performed at an even tolerable pace non stop for a minimum of 20 minutes and build to 40 minutes. Build if necessary to 20 mins. Switch function at next practice.

..... 12 mins........ Rest and position holding. Down / ready / stages of fielding / stages of throwing / rest position / stages of hitting.

Note: these times are goals but may change based on actual time needed to perform and to recover when actually done.

HOME WORK
....... Players must perform the long run on own (sighted) at least once more each week on either sat or sun night.
....... Players must perform at least one exercise to maximum capacity each night. Select from any of the ones being done at practice. Select different body part each night until all are done then repeat sequence.
...... Player may do as many body parts each night but only one exercise for each body part each night.
...... Must Skip any day the you came to practice.
...... May skip any day played game.
...... Must regularly review the web sight.
...... Must read or view movie/pictures of a technical item on the web sight once each week. May do it more often.
...... Must check email or Facebook messages once a day at night before going to bed and respond to requests indicated in the messages.

NOTE:

1. This plan will change as we procede based on whats practical and what can be accomplished.

2. We may allow additional players to participate without joining the physical training session but they must be responsive to all other aspects.

3. There will be no standard practices planned for the team in the summer except for specific players who have a specific need and requests the sessions.


PLAYERS MUST SPECIFICALLY ASK TO PARTICIPATE !!!

PARENTS MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THE STYLE OF PRACTICE WILL NOT BE 2012 BUT 1970'S !!!!!!!!!
